October 1 King of the Week: Deshaun Watson

King of the Week: Deshaun WatsonWell, this is a bittersweet entry for me. But it’s a well-deserved entry.

Deshaun Watson was just a few moments from being a two-time National Champion quarterback with the Clemson Tigers. He led Clemson’s epic comeback in both the 2016 and 2017 college football championship games against my Crimson Tide.

But even more than being an incredible football player, he’s a natural leader, and he’s a king.

The Houston Texans’ Watson gave his first NFL game paycheck to ladies working at the Texans’ stadium who lost their possessions in Hurricane Harvey.

In 2006, Deshaun Watson’s family was the recipient of a donated Habitat for Humanity house from former NFL Running Back Warrick Dunn.

And 11 years later, he paid it forward.

And on a personal note, as heartbroken as I was after his Clemson Tigers came away with the National Championship, I was relieved to know that my Tide was defeated by a team of kings. Led by Deshaun Watson.
